Congregation Care

Meals Needed Do you like to cook? Or is the number for a local pizza place on your speed dial? Either way, we have such a deal for you. Fort King members who come home from the hospital, have a baby or any life-changing situation would appreciate not having  to worry about food right away. You can help them make the transition with a good meal.   The Congregational Care committee is compiling a list of volunteers for Meals at Home. You'd have plenty of advance notice to provide one meal once in a while. It is easy. Just expand what you are cooking, or ordering, for your family to feed a few others. Want to help? That's great. We need you.  Call Lucy Tobias  mail: lucy@lucyworks.com. Thanks, cook in peace.

Women Honorary Life Member

wellingBarbara Welling was honored as Presbyterian Women Honorary Life Member recipient for 2008 on Sunday, May 11, 2008.  Barbara is an ordained Presbyterian Elder who has served on the Session of Ft. King.  She sits at the welcome table every Sunday and welcomes all our visitors with a bright smile that makes them feel at home.  When someone decides to join our church, they will find her assisting in the Discovery Class.  When you attend the White Elephant or Craft Sale, you will find her usually in charge of the Bake Sale table.  CATS (Christians Assembled to Socialize) A number of years ago, a program was developed to provide birthday cakes for the youth at the Juvenile Detention Center.  Barbara was instrumental in developing the program and works tirelessly to find volunteers to bake a cake each month. Barbara has been active on the Presbyterian Women’s Council and has served as moderator of her circle.  She has been a member of Ft. King since December 6, 1998 and always lends a helping hand in the church office or anywhere else she can be of assistance. Barbara Says It is with sincere gratitude that I accept the Presbyterian Women Honorary Life Membership Award.  Thank you so much for bestowing the honor upon me. In Christ Love, Barbara Welling

Ice Cream Social

Can anything be better in the summertime than good, old-fashioned home-made ice cream?  We have some great “churners” in this congregation that will be bringing their home-made peach, strawberry, Oreo, heath-bar and other delicious flavors on July 27 at 6:00 p.m.

This year we will not be collecting school supplies as we have in the past, but we will be concentrating our efforts to bring food items for the “Food 4 Kids Program”.  This program provides backpacks of food for children who would not have any other source of food over the weekends.  We will be collecting the following types of small individually packaged items.    Pop tarts,  Crackers/cookies (individual packs), Cereal/snack bars,   Canned Meat (individual serving type),   Canned pasta (individual serving type),   Soup,   Pudding/fruit cups,  Macaroni & cheese (heat and serve type),    Small jars of peanut butter,   Juice boxes and pouches.

Please come and support this worthy program and enjoy our ice cream!  If you have a churn and would like to bring your favorite flavor, it would be super…just give Bernice a call at 694-6798.

If you are considering providing flowers sometime for a worship service, but would like to know more about the process, I hope the following information will be helpful to you.

1. The flowers do not need to be purchased from or delivered by a florist.  If you bring them from your yard or buy them from a supermarket, they just need to be in a vase or container ready to display.

2. There is no size requirement for the flower arrangement.

3. The flowers are yours to take after the service. You can take them home or give them to someone of your choice. If you prefer to leave them, they will be re-done into smaller arrangements and delivered to hospitalized or homebound members.

4. If you leave the flowers, but would like your container returned to you, we will make sure it is returned.

5. We also have “loaner vases” you are welcome to use.

I will be glad to answer any questions you might have.

Library Corner

The church library is open for business as usual this summer (Sunday and Thursday mornings) even though things may be in a bit of disarray.  The walls which are not covered by bookcases were painted by professional painters as part of the overall church painting project.  Gradually the walls behind all the bookcases will be painted by the library staff.  This will require temporary removal of the books and shelves, one area at a time.  If you have difficulty finding what you are looking for, ask Lucille Rowoldt or Louise Olivarez for assistance.

Chris Hare has donated to the library a copy of her book of poetry titled “Seasons In Time” as well as a copy of her book of short stories titled “Children’s Stories That Teach”.  This latter publication is suitable for school-age children to read for themselves or for parents to read to their young children.  Thank you, Chris, for these additions to the library.

Library Hours  The library is open from 15 minutes before Sunday School until 15 minutes after Sunday Worship; also on Thursdays from 9:30 am until 12 Noon.

Our sincere thanks to all of you who donate books that you have read, enjoyed, and want others to enjoy them as well.
