Congregational Mission Trip in 2009

Come to an informational meeting after worship on January 11th to find out about the congregation-wide mission trip to the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia and West Virginia with an organization called Appalachia Service Project. Bring questions.

Who’s with me? We hope you are! This summer the Missions Committee is organizing a church wide mission trip to the Appalachian Mountains from July 25th through August 2nd. We will join other adults and youth from across the nation and participate with the Appalachia Service Project (ASP) in providing home repair assistance to families in need. We will strive to make homes warmer, safer, and drier. This mission trip is also a relational ministry. Each one of us will be encouraged to take time to get to know the families we are serving. Often the ASP experience serves to enlighten everyone that the differences between us are only perceived deep down we all want to be loved, to belong, to own something, and to create something worthwhile no matter where we live, our economic status, education, or ethnic identity. No one walks away from the ASP experience unchanged not families served, or volunteers. This mission trip is open to all members and friends. No experience is necessary, just a good attitude, and a willingness meet other people. Signups are happening now! Don’t be left at home this summer, join us, they need YOU! For more information on this trip please contact Andy Gans.

Detention Center Cakes
Letter to Barbara Welling October 15, 2008 %Ft. King Presbyterian Church Dear Barbara
On behalf of myself, the staff and youth at Marion Regional Juvenile Detention Center, I would like to take this opportunity to thank your group for the generous monthly donations of birthday cakes. After yourself or one of the other ladies from the church drops off the cake, we assemble the youth who have a Birthday in the current month in the dining room to eat it. I can’t tell you how much they enjoy it! For some it may be the only thing they receive for their birthday. We truly appreciate your support and the years of dedication that the “cake ladies” have given to the youth at the detention center. We hope to continue this positive relationship for a long time to come. Sincerely, Christi Stua Assistant Detention Superintendent Marion Regional Juvenile Detention Center.

2009 is coming and if you would like to bake a cake for one month this year, please get in touch with Barbara Welling at 680-9003 for more information.  We furnish the pan for you and will deliver the cake for you.  Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Congregational Care Meeting

“Cooking with Friends" The Congregational Care Committee, is organizing a cooking day to prepare soups and stews. These heartwarming meals will be given to those members of our congregation needing assistance after an illness/hospitalization, birth of a baby or death in the family. The committee is looking for any volunteers, male or female, to get together for a few hours in the church kitchen. All the ingredients will be provided ahead of time. We just need your ideas, culinary skills, and fellowship! Please consider helping to make this a success. When two or three are gathered together in Christ's name, there He will be also. To volunteer call Jane Norling at 208-5590 or Chris at the church office. Time and date to be determined by volunteers.
